MICROSOFT FABRIC ARCHITECT WANTED!
We are Upstart 13. We are humble, hungry, and competent people who are radically changing the expectations and experience of outsourcing for all participants by challenging barriers that create inequality and by bringing down borders in technology for people everywhere. We’re all about delivering value and doing big things. We have become a game-changer for teams around the world who look to Upstart’s services as a differentiator.
Job Description:
We're seeking a Microsoft Fabric Architect located in Latin America to help us build a senior, autonomous data squad. In this position, you’ll play a critical “player-coach” role, leading the technical execution of a scalable, governed lakehouse architecture while contributing hands-on to ingestion pipelines and semantic models. You'll design end-to-end solutions from ADF/Spark ingestion through curated OneLake layers, culminating in performant DirectLake models inside Microsoft Fabric.
This role is pivotal to the success of Fabric-based analytics and AI initiatives. You’ll establish patterns and governance frameworks that not only accelerate insights and reduce operational costs, but also serve as the blueprint for future strategic programs. Your leadership and architecture choices will directly influence time-to-value, stakeholder satisfaction, and the long-term scalability of Upstart13’s data practice.
Responsibilities:
Architecture & Strategy:
- Establish end-to-end lakehouse blueprint: Ingestion → OneLake Medallion Zones → Fabric semantic models.
- Define standards for folders, table naming, schema evolution, and data contracts.
External Ingestion & Preparation:
- Build reusable ADF/Synapse templates (parameterized Copy, Data Flow, Spark, notebooks).
- Optimize performance, cost, and reliability (Delta/Parquet, V-Order, partitioning, retries).
Semantic Modelling in Fabric:
- Create Fabric Lakehouse & Warehouse objects, develop star schemas, measures, RLS, and incremental refresh.
- Automate model deployments via Fabric Deployment Pipelines / YAML CI-CD.
Governance & DevOps:
- Integrate Purview lineage across the ETL process.
- Implement environment-as-code, Git versioning, automated testing, and monitoring.
Leadership & Coaching:
- Lead a senior team of 6+ engineers; run code reviews, design technical sessions, and collaborate in sprint ceremonies.
- Hire and onboard newcomers to align culture, processes, and stakeholder expectations.
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Act as a trusted advisor to Microsoft and executive sponsors; translate business needs into technical road maps and clear capacity estimates.
Qualifications
Experience:
- 15+ years of overall experience with 10+ years focused on data engineering.
- 3+ years designing on Azure Synapse or Microsoft Fabric.
- Proven delivery of Medallion lakehouse architectures with internal or external ingestion feeding Fabric.
- Expert in Azure Data Factory / Synapse Pipelines, Spark SQL, Delta/Parquet optimization.
- Strong SQL and data modelling skills (star-schema, dimensional modelling, performance tuning).
- Deep knowledge of data quality, security, and lineage (Purview, RBAC, ACLs).
- Demonstrated leadership of distributed senior teams.- Clear, authoritative English communication.
Soft skills:
- Communicator: Commands a room, explains complex concepts simply.
- Mentor: Elevates senior peers; thrives on code reviews and knowledge-sharing.
- Outcome-Driven: Ties architecture choices to ROI, timelines, and stakeholder pain points.
- Adaptive Problem-Solver: Embraces ambiguity, iterates quickly, escalates early.
- Governance Champion: Values security, documentation, and repeatable processes.
Bonus skills:
- Databricks or other lakehouse-to-Fabric migration experience.
- Materialized Lake Views and DirectLake performance tuning.
- Streaming ingestion patterns (Event Hubs/Kafka → Bronze).
- Microsoft certifications: DP-203, DP-600.
- Familiarity with Fabric REST/Graph APIs for automation.
